First picture of schoolboy, 15, stabbed to death on his way home from the shops

A 15-year-old schoolboy who was stabbed to death in east London on Friday evening has been named by police.

Kayjon Lubin died after he was knifed in the chest in a street in North Woolwich, Newham, on Friday at around 6.50pm.

Police and paramedics were called to reports of a stabbing where they found the injured teenager.

Despite the efforts of the emergency services Kayjon, who lived in Newham, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem examination has determined his cause of death as a single stab wound to the chest.

A murder hunt is being headed up Detective Chief Inspector Mark Wrigley from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command (Homicide).

He said: “We are providing specialist support to Kayjon’s family as they go through the most unimaginable of times, and we are doing everything we can to identify who may be responsible for his murder.

“There were lots of people in the area at the time Kayjon was attacked and I would appeal for anyone who hasn’t yet come forward, to do so.

“Anyone who saw any activity near the Nisa store in Pier Parade at around 18.30hrs is asked to contact my team of detectives. No matter how insignificant the information may seem, we want to hear from you without delay.”

Mayor of Newham Rokhsana Fiaz OBE tweeted: “My condolences to his parents for the loss of their son.

“Please, if anyone has any information call the police. Let’s help bring the perpetrators to justice.”

A crowdfunding page set up to help Kayjon’s mum has passed its £2,000 target.

It reads: “We are saddened and devastated by the loss of our beloved 15yr old (AKA) Puss puss who was unexpectedly stabbed on his way from the shop on Friday, December 11, 2020.

“Puss puss was loved by his school mates family and close family. A young teenager with a promising future. Puss puss was looking forward to sit his GCSE’s next year so he could get his place in the top uni.

“Puss puss always talked about his future and what he is going to do for his mother Janna, who is a NHS support worker who supports the elderly people in nursing homes.

“This account is to bring awareness of the financial needs this family has for funeral expenses. All proceeds will go directly to his mother, Janna, and his big bother.

“Lets give puss puss a great send off.

“All support will be a great blessing to her at this trying time. Its hard to even comprehend the devastating grief all of family are feeling right now.

“So no matter how small. Please donate. If you can donate.

“Please keep his family in your prayers.”

On Sunday a 17-year-old male and a 28-year-old man were both arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

They remain in custody.

A 25-year-old man arrested on Saturday has been released and no further action will be taken against him.
